23 April, 2010 Introduction The idea of a Canon of scripture originates from Judaism. Its development is mostly tied up with ancient church history which is found in its writings and its institutional aspects.  In this history of the Christian church we get church leaders known as church fathers who made use of the these literary works which later came to be known as canonical scripture.  The heretics also made a selection of the books from the Old Testament that they would quote from. The mushrooming of new writings by the heretics was causing tension in the early church congregation where there were many writings which were being used in teaching.

Many African languages in general are rich in proverbs. This is the medium through which the people express their feelings and thoughts on different situations.These  proverbs have been handed over through word of mouth from generation to generation, but in recent years many have found their way on print media. Below are some of the common proverbs which the author has picked from different sources of African Literature

Communication refers broadly to the process of interacting with others. We build relationships through communication and interaction. Children and young people learn from their conversations with adults [1] . Children who have difficulties communicating may have difficulties forming relationships as communication is the cornerstone of our relationship with other people [2] .

Equality means treating people equally regardless of their colour, gender, age, ethnicity, sexuality, religion and disability. We should treat people equally yet individually to meet individual needs. To be able to do this, first we should understand that people are not the same. This is referred to as diversity.  It recognises that though people have loads of things in common, they are also different in many ways. Diversity is about valuing and recognising these differences. People are different is many ways such as sexuality, age, gender, ethnicity, religion. By understanding our individual differences we can work in ways that everybody feels valued. Inclusion means respecting and accepting people regardless of their age, sex, gender, ethnicity, disability. Inclusion is about people being involved in all aspects of life [1] .

It is of great value to put the child/YP at the centre of assessment and planning . All children and young people academic, personal and social skills are developed to their full potential by providing them with rich learning experiences that reflect their needs, abilities and interests which enables them to achieve [1] . Many children have many problems which they need some help in order to develop. These problems include:

The factors that influence the well being of children and young people. The factors that influence the well being of children and young people are: • Attachment : Attachments are formed in the very earliest months and years of life. These have a significant influence on emotional development as well as providing a template for the child as he or she grows into adulthood

  current and relevant legislation and policy affects work with children and young people . Children Act 1989, 2004 is one of the first pieces of legislations to recognise that the needs of the children are important. This Act first came part of the legislation framework in 1989 and was designed to ensure that all the local authorities are providing equal standards of care and support to children/young children and their families. The act also includes the support of children who are disabled and when they reach the age of 18 they will come under the NHS and community care act 1990 [1] .

The importance of multi-agency working and integrated working Integrated or multi-agency working is a formal way of working together in partnership. A partnership can be formed by a number of individuals or organisations with a shared interest. Different services and professionals working together with other teams of people in order to meet the needs of children, young people and their parents [1] .

1.1 The importance of providing accurate and up to date information and advice to children and young people. Young people should have accurate and up-to-date information about the range of opportunities available to them along with appropriate career information, advice and guidance (IAG) and any information to help support their decision-making process.

The Legislation that governs the use of Medication in social care settings Understanding the legal framework The Medicines Acts 1968 and various amendments cover the legal management of medication. While care staff is not expected to have detailed knowledge of the legislation, they do need to be aware of the legal difference between types of drugs and the legal framework that allows them to handle medicines on behalf of the service user.

Institutions are student centred environments where care and wellbeing of students are given maximum attention. The primary focus is always to ensure each student is kept safe and their welfare promoted at all times. The local care procedures facilities seek to ensure that all children and young people are provided with among other things:

The are many factors to take into account when planning healthy and safe indoor and outdoor environments and services. The safety and welbeing of children should be of paramount importance to all practitioners. When providing environments for children you must comply with the laws and regulations relevant to your home country [1] .

REFLECTIVE ACCOUNT The following is my reflective account as recorded on the 07.11.2014 1. TIME OF ARRIVAL AT WORK. I arrived at work for my morning shift at 07.15 am. Clocked in the Kronos machine. This is to confirm to my employer the time of arrival whether I was in time for my shift which starts at 07.30 am. I also physically signed in  the staff register book in the office.

Different areas of development of the child or young person can be assessed. These areas are; physical development, development of communication, intellectual or cognitive development, social, emotional and behavioural development; moral development. There are many factors that one has to take into consideration when assessing a  child’s development: These factors include: a child or young person’s wishes and  feelings, ethnic, linguistic and cultural background, disability or specific  requirements, additional needs; reliability of information; avoiding judgements or  bias, age and stage of development; confidentiality and circumstances where total  confidentiality is not appropriate e.g. safety of the child or young person is at risk. When assessing the child or young person, assess the child or young person’s  overall development making reference to the expected developmentally norms for  the appropriate age.

Children’s experience of a setting will largely depend on the relationship that they make with practitioners and other peers. Opportunities to form, strengthen and promote positive relationships with children and young people exist in every practitioner’s working day [1] .

SAMSON MAGARA 17/09/2014 at 22:50 Legislation, frameworks, codes of practice and policies relating to positive behaviour support are applied to own working practice. All adults who work within in a working practice environment have a responsibility to themselves and the practice to model a high standard of behaviour, both in their dealings with the children and with every other adult within the practice as their example of behaviour has a significant influence on the children’s behaviour. Good, strong teamwork between adults will encourage good behaviour in children. Each working practice has a behaviour policy that staff should be aware of and adhere to; all new staff follows an induction programme to guarantee a dependable approach to behaviour management within my own workplace.
